The device in the back is a Shimadzu HPLC. HPLC has applications in a variety of forensic disciplines, including toxicology, trace evidence, questioned documents, and other analytical chemistry techniques. It is often used in combination with some type of MS detector, such as a tandem MS. I am not familiar with whatever is attached to what appears to be a liquid nitrogen tank, but it makes me think it is an MS/MS.

So very close. It is an HPLC, but the silver object does denote a particular type of spectroscopic assay.
